Drogon and Daenerys Targaryen torched the whole King’s Landing on Game of Thrones.

With just two more days to go for the Game of Thrones series finale, fans can still not stay away from making up crazy theories about how it all will end. A new, exceptionally wild one suggests that Daenerys Targaryen’s dark and horrible twist in the latest episode wasn’t we thought it was.

In the fifth episode of ongoing eighth season, Cersei Lannister’s army surrenders to Daenerys and her dragon after the latter torches the former’s armies and fleets. But this wasn’t enough for Dany. As she heard the bells of surrender toll, she makes up her mind to kill everyone in King’s Landing and burn the whole city to the ground. We watch her clench her jaw in anger and take off on Drogon’s back, turning the town and townspeople to ash. However, after that scene, we do not see a single close up of her face or her expressions as she gave Drogon the commands to ‘burn them all’.

Why did the makers choose to keep her face away from the viewers at such a pivotal moment in her story? A Reddit user has some answers. Username Ratcliffeb posted a theory which says that Bran Stark may be behind it all. They say that Bran has always been fiddling with important moments the define the show’s timeline so it wouldn’t be too out of character for him to do that. To make sure that Dany comes across as the Mad Queen, he ‘wargs’ into Drogon and sets King’s Landing on fire.

“His most recent play has been doing everything to manipulate Dany into going Mad and burning down Kings Landing. Which will cause all the other lords to revolt against her. Problem is he underestimated Dany and instead of burning down Kings Landing she was headed for the Red Keep so the 3ER warged into Drogon and did it himself,” the theory read. And what proof do they have for it? “Dany’s eyes are LOCKED onto the Red Keep when she takes off and shes beelineing it for it for quite awhile. Its only after we see the identical scene of Brans vision from an earlier season of Drogon’s shadow flying over King’s Landing that Drogon changes directions and starts lighting everyone up. They dont show a close up of Dany again after that,” the theory added.

The theory, if proven true, would tell viewers why Dany killed innocent people even after they surrendered to her and also what Bran’s true purpose after becoming the Three Eyed Raven was. Two birds with one stone?

However, writers DB Weiss and David Benioff have already talked about their decision not to show Dany’s face during the battle. “We wanted her to be just death from above as seen from the perspective of the people who are on the business end of that dragon. In most large stories like this, it seems like the tendency is to focus on the heroic figures and not pay attention to the people who may be suffering the repercussions of the decisions made by those heroic people and we really wanted to keep our perspective and our sympathies on the ground at this moment cause those are the people who are really paying the price for the decisions that she is making,” Weiss said.

The final episode airs Monday morning in India on Hotstar. It will wind up 10 years and eight years worth of storytelling that the world came to love.
