Dancing for Hrithik Roshan

After being beaten up by police in Delhi in 2000 when he tried to meet the superstar, a fan returns to realise his dream on the actor’s TV show.

This story seems to be straight out of a Bollywood script. In 2000, when Hrithik Roshan visited Siri Fort auditorium in Delhi to promote his debut film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, a young boy, Surjeet waited patiently for hours to see his favourite actor and possibly meet him.

But thanks to chaos at the venue, the police had to shoo away a group of people, which included Surjeet. “Mujhe wahan se dande maarke bhagaya gaya tha (They beat me up with sticks and forced me to run away),” he recalls, adding that he has been waiting for 10 years to meet Hrithik.Hrithik, the muse

Surjeet adds that he was not interested in dance until 2000, when Hrithik made his debut with the hit co-starring Ameesha Patel. "He has always been an inspiration to me. In fact, I learnt to dance by watching him on TV and copying his steps," says the young dancer, who has now set his heart on a career in dancing.

Calling Hrithik his “idol”, Surjeet interestingly named his niece, Hrithika. “When my brother’s daughter was born, I wanted her name to somehow be related to Hrithik sirji, so I convinced everyone to name her Hrithika. I feel I have a special connection with him because even my own daughter was born on the same day as him – January 10,” says Surjeet, who’s made it as a participant on the dance reality show, Just Dance, with Hrithik as one of the judges.
