When Delhi girl Sriti Jha took up dramatics in DU’s Sri Venkateswara College, little did she know that the extra curricular activity would land her a role on television, that too in a prime time saas-bahu show.

But that’s exactly what Jha, now 24 and a graduate in English, is up to these days, as she plays the lead in Rakt Sambandh, a show on that airs on Imagine and charts the lives of five sisters.

“I play the role of a blind girl, the youngest daughter in the family who, on the day of her wedding, goes through a family tragedy,” says Jha, on a recent promotional trip to the Capital.

“I’ve been asked, why I take up such challenging roles. In another show, I played the character of a girl suffering from split personality disorder,” she says, adding that such roles have been a great learning process.

She admits her role required research. “I read Helen Keller’s autobiography twice to get my act right. It’s really interesting to know how Helen lives life as a social and political activist, despite the fact that she not just blind but also deaf,” she concludes.
