Gaurav Chopraa wants to promote Indian culture on his dance reality show

The actor, who is in Europe to shoot for a popular American dance show, paid tribute to Indian cinema in his recent performance.

TV actor Gaurav Chopraa is busy with the Georgia edition of the American show, Dancing With The Stars. Recently, as part of the show, when he had to present an act based on cinema, he decided to dance to a medley of Hindi film songs, because he wanted to represent Indian cinema. “My aim to do this dance reality show in Georgia was to expose the audience in that country to India and its culture. They don’t know anything beyond ‘Mera joota hai Japani’. So, I thought of introducing them to the Bollywood of today,” he says.

He also met a group of Indian medical students there, and after taking permission from the makers of the show, he included them in the dance act as well. Talking about the performance, Gaurav, who was seen in the Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer Blood Diamond (2006), says, “To have an Indian audience in a European country for an Indian tribute felt right. The students who participated in the act were very enthusiastic. We decided to end our dance with a Holi number, because the locals in Georgia don’t know much about the Indian festival.”
