The ace choreographer and dance-guru, who was last seen two years ago on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 2 as a judge, will now be seen grooming the 40 odd semi-finalists on India’s Got Talent on Colors.
Shiamak Davar, who is currently in the Capital to train the Miss India contestants for the talent round, promises that while he grooms and tips the contestants to perform better, he wouldn’t like to be sharp-tongued with them.
“When you want someone to improvise on their performance why would you scream at them? ‘Pyaar se danda maro’. It works wonders,” he chuckles. He informs that his dance company would also be part of the groomed performances.
Generally, groomers or trainers are seen raising their voices and using cuss words to enhance the viewer ratings. Is that part of the plan here too? “I don’t shout at my students, whether they are in my school or anywhere else. And I would never agree to be part of a plan where I have to become the bad man and fetch ratings for a show,” replies the ace dancer.
A major part of Davar’s work will involve the participants backstage, rather than sitting with the judges, though he will be part of the show till the finale. “Thank god, I don’t have to judge anyone’s performance. But I’ll have to be on my toes to enhance 40 plus performances according to the judges’ comments. That will be a challenge,” he says.
“I will help the contestants to exploit their talents better. So far, they have all come on stage and danced or sung or done whatever else they were selected for. Now, I’ll enhance their performances by adding visual effects. I can do that by using dancers in the background to create a setting that adds the right feel to the performance. It will give a feel of my kind of dancing. I will also enhance the choreography if needed,” promises Davar. Shall we say, wait and watch then?
