Host Ian Wright on why the country is always on his radar.

India is an intriguing and interesting country with a very rich history. I’d never considered it out of bounds,” says Ian Wright, referring to his latest series, which will take him to remote and lesser-visited parts of the world. “War prone areas are the sort of places I won’t visit. They’re in distress, and that wouldn’t allow me to experience the true culture and essence of a country and their people.”

Wright is no stranger to Indian tourism. His jaunts have brought him to the country often. “I love the traffic!” he jokes, “but the working chaos and diversity are fascinating. Every city has its own culture, language, rituals, customs and food. It’s such a colourful country. Even the people are friendly and very interesting.”

A seasoned traveller, Wright has plenty of advice for his viewers. “I believe language is born to deceive people,” he says, for those who fear verbal block in foreign countries. “I’m very physical in my communication and animated with my
expressions. Of course, there is nothing more universal than hugs and kisses,” he adds, tongue in cheek.

He also has tips for those who are going on vacation. “If you’re going on an expensive, luxurious holiday, you might want to plan it properly,” he says, adding, “a trekking or hiking holiday, on the other hand, must be more impulsive and spontaneous.”
