The channel that currently occupies the number two spot among the active general entertainment channels, Colors, will be airing a national anthem video with over 60 of its popular faces from its leading dailies. Everyone from Pratyusha Bannerjee who plays Anandi in the channel’s leading show Balika Vadhu to Rashmi Desai, the popular villain Tapasya from prime-time daily Uttaran are a part of the video’s cast. The artistes have also lent their voices and the shoot was completed in a single schedule with all the actors.
However, this isn’t the first time that a channel has done this. Eight months ago, Zee TV, currently the number three channel among the active general entertainment channels, shot a video with its leading actors from all its daily soaps and aired it during a special capsule of their show Jhansi Ki Rani, that went off air only recently.
When asked if the channel had taken cues from their close competitor, Ashvini Yardi, head of programming, Colors, insists that it’s not the case. “I cannot comment on past initiatives of other channels. The national anthem video created with the Colors family of over 60 stars is our way to celebrate Independence Day. We’re creative enough to not get inspired or pick ideas blatantly from other channels,” she adds, firmly.
Considering that Kaun Banega Crorepati’s fifth edition flags off on the same day in a prime-time slot on Sony Entertainment, the number four channel on the chart, wouldn’t it be difficult for Colors to engage viewers with their special programmes for the day? “No,” says Yardi, pointing out that the Independence Day special capsule will be aired a day before. “The national anthem video will be aired throughout the day. As for KBC 5, I’m confident about the shows we produce. That show has its following. But our shows have their followers too. So, people will tune in to whatever they wish to watch on that day without anyone making any extra efforts.”
