Karishma Tanna is often referred to as the reality TV queen, considering the number of reality show she has done. From Comedy Circus and Bigg Boss to Khatron Ke Khiladi to Nach Baliye and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Karishma has tried her hand at almost all possible genres of reality TV. However, it was mostly after Bigg Boss season 8 that Karishma shot to fame, owing to her romantic linkup with her co-contestant Upen Patel on the show.
Asked if she misses the limelight that comes with participating in a reality show, Karishma replies that it’s a part and parcel of the industry. “Even if you’re doing a film, you’re in the news while the shooting is on and during promotions. But once it’s over, the limelight fades away and you wait for something better to come your way. But yes, I definitely enjoyed the limelight and attention that came long after the show got over,” she says.
Does the label “reality queen” bother her at times? “People who call me reality queen or whatever don’t help me run my house. If I get a good project, I’ll definitely pick it up because today I’m famous, tomorrow may be I’d be gone. And this industry is an uncertain place for both male and female artists. I’m very choosy when it comes to work. It’s not like whatever comes my way, I will agree to do it. But if I’m getting good money and exposure and if the content is satisfying, what’s the harm in doing it, even if it’s yet another reality show?” says Karishma.
Talking about the time when the spotlight was on her personal and professional life, Karishma says, “Everyone wanted to ask what I was doing and what’s going in my personal life. People tend to discuss things like relationships with family and friends, and the fact that I’m the only breadwinner in the family. And honestly, I cashed in on it,” says the actor, who is excited to have bagged a cameo in Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic on Sanjay Dutt.
