Leena Chandavarkar to debute on TV!

In December, 2007, it was announced that yesteryear actress Leena Chandavarkar would make her TV debut opposite Rajesh Khanna, her co-star in Mehboob ki Mehndi and Mamta ki Chhaon Mein, in director Raj Kamal’s emotional saga Bhabhimaa. Buzz is that the show may be grounded for reasons best known to the production house.

Chandavarkar, when contacted, denied the rumours. “We have been working on the script and the casting. The show will go on air, probably in July. The two-year delay was over technical issues. But we’ve started shooting for it now,” she argued heatedly.

The show revolves around a wealthy, close-knit Rajput family whose members go their separate ways following misunderstandings. Chandavarkar is the homely bhabhimaa who along with her husband (Rajesh Khanna) strive to keep the family together.

Apparently, the director of the show, Kamal, and Chandavarkar go back by a decade. They met when Chandavarkar was renting out her husband, Kishore Kumar’s bungalow in Juhu, Gauri Kunj, for shootings. He had been pleading her to get back to acting for eight years. Chandavarkar says, “I promised Raj that if I decided to make a comeback, it would be with you. I’ve kept my word.”
