Bidaai's Ragini aka Parul Chauhan talks to Anil Merani about wedding bells and reality shows...
So finally, Ragini and Ranvir are getting married?
(Smiles) Yes.. but Ragini will believe it only when the pheras are complete, considering she was once jilted at the mandap. Love conquers all barriers, right?
Does the whole fair-dark problem still exist?
Oh it does. Most people still haven’t matured enough to go beyond skin tone. Things get worse if in one household you have a fair girl and a dusky girl.
Coming back to the wedding, the outfit looked pretty heavy..
It was.. people wondered how I could carry it for days on end.. but I know it’s for Ragini, so I bore it with a smile. (Smiles) I guess it’s a dress rehearsal of sorts. I know I’ll wear a heavier lehenga for my own shaadi.
Any plot twists after the wedding?
Ragini and Sadhna’s (Sara Khan) relationship might sour. But that’s imperative because Sadhna will now become Ragini’s jethani.
You’re also a contestant on Jhalak Dikhhlaa Jaa.. what’s it like juggling a reality show and a daily drama?
Pretty hectic. All I do every day is run around shooting and rehearsing. I have lost out on a lot of sleep. I’m lucky to have a very supportive unit in Bidaai who are ready to adjust.
What do you think of reality shows?
It’s my first, so I’ll need to shoot and watch a few episodes before commenting. But from whatever I have seen, such shows provide a platform to showcase one’s ability. Fictional soaps involve a lot of dance too, but you can have retakes there. On a reality show, it’s totally live. And then there’s the competition.

You like dancing?
I love it. I remember the time I had to do a Kathak performance in Bidaai.. the steps were so complicated, I fainted.. my dance master was so patient with me.
I must warn you about the catfights on most reality shows..
(Evasively) Those kind of things aren’t my cup of tea. One harsh word and I burst into tears. I will take negative comments in my stride and not hit back. It’s just a competition.. it’s not war! I’ll give it my best shot.
What do fans tell you when they meet you?
They’re all glad I’m finally happy. (Laughs) But some of them tell me, “Beta, don’t cry so much!”
