She plays Rukmini, the unfortunate sister with a scar-face in Kesariya Balam Aavo Hamare Des on Sahara One. Six months ago, she confirmed that she would be married towards the end of 2009. However, it didn’t happen, given her father’s sudden demise. Now, actress Jaya Binju plans to marry her fiancé Sachal Tyagi (Ranvijay, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Zee TV) this year.

“Sachal and I will be tying the knot this year, though the new dates haven’t been finalised. I will miss dad whenever the ceremony happens. Actually, I miss him all the time,” she sighs, adding that she misses her father’s guidance, professionally and personally. Binju says, “Now, I’ll follow what he has taught me. Papa always wanted me to give my 200 per cent to work, the way he did. I’ll do that.”

According to the current track in the show, Binju’s younger step sister, Rasal (Toral Rasputra) and she are married to the same man. Binju lives like a servant and Rasputra the life of a princess. When asked how she prepares herself for such roles, she says that she begins to imagine how she would react if she was in such a situation for real.

It’s lesser known that Binju was a journalist before becoming an actress. Ask her that and she smiles and says that she never planned to be an actress. “But I had the acting bug since school days,” she says. “I acted in plays throughout school and college. I was a rookie journalist writing a story. I needed a model’s picture to be published with it. She didn’t turn up for our shoot. Since it was urgent, my colleagues asked me to fill in for her. I did. After that I got plenty of offers to act,” she chuckles.

And was switching lanes easy? Binju nods in the positive: “At one point, I was modelling and pursuing journalism together. Luck just takes you places.”
