Dipika Kakar, who divorced her husband Raunak Mehta this year, says even though our society has progressed on several levels, the word divorcee still has a “social stigma” attached to it. However, she feels that things are still a little better in the entertainment industry. “I don’t think there is any stigma in the entertainment industry. Luckily, I am in a progressive industry, in which women rule the roost. Our shows are female-dominated, and most of our producers - including the most popular of them all, Ekta Kapoor - are all women,” says Dipika.

The actor was also in the news recently when she announced her relationship with her former co-star Shoaib Ibrahim. Ask her why she kept it under wraps for so long, and she says, “There is no hesitation or nervousness (talking about Shoaib), as I am confident about my choice. We are both giving each other time, and getting to know each other as much as possible before we take the next step.”

On the professional front, the actor’s show often gets trolled on social media for its bizarre content. But the criticism doesn’t bother Dipika. “I feel my show has set trends on television, which others have followed. When something is doing well, it is bound to receive some criticism. Hence, the show, too, is at the receiving end of some comments and jokes,” she says, adding that she is just “doing her job”. “As actors, we don’t have much say regarding the content. Our job is to just deliver. The makers know what they are doing. We just need to do justice to our roles,” she says.
