Tonight, Channel [V] launches another show on dating, that extends into a virtual world from the real. Lovenet would set up dates between virtual friends, who’ve been dating online for a while, and film the contradictions between the two mediums. VJ Manish Anand, the host of the reality show vouches for the concept’s originality. “It’s an experiment. It might be interesting because internet is a medium in which you don’t know whom have you been chatting with. We’re trying to highlight this,” he adds.

Exploring the format
Lovenet has a quirky format that invades the privacy of the contestants, but that makes it funny. The show transports contestants to the other person’s hometown, for a ‘room raid’, where they can check out the possessions of their date, and pick out three things that the date may have lied about online.

They are also taken around to meet their date’s real life friends, and check out their hangouts, so they can intimately experience glimpses of the life of the person they’ve been dating online.

“We also bring them face-to-face, so they can question each other,” explains Anand. “Most of the times, contestants lie about their age, the way they look or the kind of life they lead. So it always leads to fireworks when they actually date.”
