Actor Mita Vashisht recently walked out of mythological TV drama, Mahadev, after shooting for it for a whole day. The role was a cameo for five episodes and was to air next week.

Actor Mita Vashisht recently walked out of mythological TV drama, Mahadev, after shooting for it for a whole day. The role was a cameo for five episodes and was to air next week. While producer Nikhil Sinha feels that she was being “irresponsible” and had “quit saying she wasn’t enjoying the part,” Mita explains her side of the story and insists that there’s more than what meets the eye.

"I was told that the role is of Daraka, a tapsvini who prays to Goddess Parvati and gets a boon, which she misuses. I was told to enact it like a B-grade Bollywood gangster. After shooting for eight hours, they still didn’t get what was needed. When Nikhil asked me to try again and shoot for another hour, I just couldn’t. I was exhausted," says the actor.

“Sometimes they wanted the character to be loud, and sometimes they asked me to tone it town. The creative gave me one brief and later the director said he wanted something different. Accommodating both ideas was getting me nowhere,” she says. The actor says she was so upset with the whole issue that she didn’t even take her payment for the shoot.

Vashisht also feels that the problem is at a deeper level. “Nowadays, everyone is replaceable on TV. There are no good actors and women characters are objectified. Every 19-year-old girl is just shown waiting for a man to come and marry her,” she says She has been replaced by Sunila Chauhan for the same role.
