Philippines or Panama?

Where will the desiSurvivor be shot? Reports say Philippines may be affected by blasts in nuclear reactors in Japan.

Star Plus, the channel that has commissioned the Indian remake of Survivor to Miditech, is considering taking the show on the floors over the next two months with 20 popular faces from different professions. Though still undecided, the channel may choose either Philippines or the Panama Islands as the location. But according to reports Philippines could be among the first countries in Asia to be affected by the blasts in the nuclear reactors in Japan.

“We haven’t zeroed in on the destination yet. Talks are on with various line production companies. We will have a huge international crew working on our show,” says Monica Sheirgill, senior creative director, Star Plus. “We were supposed to fix our location over the next few days, but we will now freeze it only once the radiation scare is over. We can’t risk lives for a show.” Two weeks ago Niret Alva, co-founder of Miditech, took off on a weeklong recce to Philippines to finalise locations for the show, shoot for which is expected to commence within the next ten weeks. “I was in Philippines for locations. But the final call on whether they want to shoot there or at another location will be taken by the channel,” he says.
