Ranvir, Vinay return to TV

Minty Tejpal’s Kaam Ka Plot, that stars Ranvir Shorey, Sandhya Mridul and Vinay Pathak, will release on television, even though the actors and the director would love for it to hit theatres.

Seventeen days, Rs 60 lakh, three film actors, Vishal Bhardwaj’s music and a film critic’s direction — this is the combination that will come together in Minty Tejpal’s Kaam Ka Plot. But the film, that stars Ranvir Shorey, Sandhya Mridul and Vinay Pathak, will release on television, even though the actors and the director would love for it to hit theatres.

“It deserves to get a theatrical release,” insists Shorey, who is playing the lead role in the 90-minute film. Tejpal, who wrote the script in a week, also hopes for the same, but is waiting to see the response the film garners. “Sunil Bora, a distributor, saw tremendous potential in it, but everything depends on the response,” says Tejpal, adding that his film is about “a common man”, a topic left rather behind in Bollywood. “The common man has been forgotten. So this film deals with a jobless guy, played by Ranvir, who pretends to leave for work, one day after another, until he meets a photographer (Sandhya Mridul). Then a series of twists follow.”

Good friends Shorey and Pathak, who have been known for their comic timing in many films and for their work on TV in their show Ranvir, Vinay aur Kaun? apart from others, will be seen together after a while.

When asked whether the fact that the film was only going to be screened on television, on Zoom, was a cause of concern for the actor, he says, “Minty is an old friend of mine. And Vinay and I have worked across formats over all these years. In the end it doesn’t matter where it is released. The quality of this script is rare.”
