This week, Sahara One launched its new show, Bitto. The story of a girl struggling with the caste system in a remote North Indian village, Bitto is the umpteenth show of its kind. Next up from the Sahara One stable are Shor, a story of a mute girl married into a wealthy Gujarati family, and seven other shows, with one show being launched every month on an average.

“Our aim is to tap the audience in the hinterland that still doesn’t have any access to modern technology. The shows will establish connect with them. And the drama will draw the metro audience too,” said Avinash Kaul, the new CEO of Sahara One.

Buzz is that the channel’s successful reality show, Biggest Loser Jeetega — that called a group of obese contestants to lose weight — will also return after three years with actor Suniel Shetty as its host.

The channel is also in talks with choreographer Saroj Khan. “She may produce a dance-based reality show. Her production company also has plans to start a daily soap for the channel. It’s still to be seen which idea clicks better,” informs a source.

Kaul doesn’t confirm the status of any of these shows, but says, “Every reality show that we produce now on, will have an earthy flavour to suit the tastes of the hinterland masses.”
