Rahul Lohani of Mohe Rang De enters Balika Vadhu. Nishi Shah caught up with him...Balika VadhuBalika Vadhu is your second show on Colors. Apprehensive?

Not at all. It’s a key role. I’m playing Gehna’s music teacher. He’s a calm and mature person. He understands her very well and tries to help clear the mess in her life.

Apparently, you landed the role when you were still doing Mohe Rang De.
Yes, the production company called me shortly before Mohe.. went off air. I think the Colors connection works.

Did you opt for Balika.. because it’s a TRP frontrunner?
No way! I’ve been following the show closely and have loved it. It’s a bonus that I’m going to be part of it. The director has a different sensibility. It took me long to can a shot for Mohe. It’s easier here and a lot of fun too. It’s buzzed that there will be an affair between Gehna and her teacher. Balika.. is a responsible show and propogates social messages. There won’t be an affair between Neha Marda’s and my character for now. I don’t know much about the plot right now. Gehna’s life will change forever for sure.

Are you in touch with the Mohe.. team?
Not really, except the lead pair. They are friends.

Have you taken on another show apart from Balika.. ?
No. I choose to do one role at a time and do only those parts which are meaty.

Does it help doing one show at a time when most actors do four?
It’s a personal choice. I agree there are some actors who can manage four shows at one go. I’m sure they don’t mind taking on small roles to earn some extra money. I can’t do four shows. The character and the story are more important.

Have you attempted to learn music?
No but I’m passionate about it. I’m a theatre person and have always been attached to music. I took music lessons once at the Sangeet Maha Vidyalaya in the city. (Laughs) I didn’t learn the ragas but thankfully I’ve learnt enough to play a music teacher.

You lost your brother last year..
It happened in December. I consoled myself but the sense of loss stays forever. I stayed with my family only for three days at that time because I had committed my dates for Mohe Rang De. No matter what, I will miss my brother.
