In 1993, ace Hollywood director Steven Spielberg brought dinosaurs back to civilised life in the Academy Award-winning film, Jurassic Park. This time, as executive producer of the TV show Terra Nova, the filmmaker is taking audiences back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth.
"It is the biggest show on TV. No other show has been produced on such a scale and magnitude in many years. Steven Spielberg’s involvement in a project that has sci-fi elements says it all," says Saurabh Yagnik, general manager and senior VP, English channels, Star India Pvt Ltd. The Twentieth Century Fox Television, Chernin Entertainment, DreamWorks Television and Kapital Entertainment production revolves around the Shannon family, who travel back in time in an attempt to keep humanity from getting extinct.
“The Earth becomes unlivable because of population explosion and lack of resources. The family goes back in time to a human colony called Terra Nova to discover how pristine the planet is. But this is also the age of the dinosaurs,” says Yagnik. The characters also face hostility from the leader of another human settlement. Actor Stephen Lang, who starred in the Academy Award-winning film Avatar (2009), plays Commander Nathaniel Taylor in the series. The much-hyped show, directed by Alex Graves, will hit airwaves in India only 12 days after its international TV on Fox.

{{/usCountry}}The show will premiere here on October 8 and will be on air every Saturday at 9 pm on Star World. “We try and get the latest shows from the US to India in this weekend slot, so people don’t get tempted to download them,” jokes Yagnik. It has been reported that the first season of Terra Nova consists of 13 episodes and has been made on a budget of over $10 million.
