Covid update: China’s vaccine secrecy; WHO hails PM Modi; BJP neta threat

From the World Health Organisation chief praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to India's Union health minister commenting on cases of reinfection - here are the top news updates on the Covid-19 pandemic. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus thanked PM Modi for his 'commitment to solidarity' a day after the latter told the United Nations General Assembly that India, as the world's largest vaccine manufacturer, would help the globe fight Covid. PM was also praised by Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla for his promise. Meanwhile, Health minister Harsh Vardhan said that some cases of reinfection in India were under investigation, but it doesn't appear to be a serious issue so far. He also said that India is far from herd immunity, and so everyone must follow precautions like wearing masks, hand hygiene and social distancing. In West Bengal, a senior BJP leader sparked a controversy by saying that he would hug the state's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, if he is suffering from Covid.
