From the Union government issuing new guidelines for international passengers travelling to India, to the health status of Union Home minister Amit Shah who is admitted to a hospital in Gurugram - here are the top news updates on the Covid-19 pandemic.

The government will now allow international passengers, who have tested Covid negative or are in a distressing situation, to skip 7-day institutional quarantine and instead, be home quarantined for 2 weeks. Passengers seeking this exemption will have to apply 72 hours before boarding the plane. Also, those claiming the exemption on the basis of not being infected, will have to show a negative RT-PCR test not older than 96 hours before the journey. Meanwhile, politicians from across party lines wished a speedy recovery to Amit Shah, who revealed his positive diagnosis on Sunday. Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddiyurappa has also tested positive for Covid infection.

In international news, China is sending a 60-member team to Hong Kong amid a spike in cases, even as the island territory sees unrest and tension against what is seen as Beijing's increasing tampering with the 'one country, two systems' principle.
