Death toll in Italy due to COVID-19 exceeded 10,000. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte made the announcement on the evening of 28 March. Conte said, “Today we have registered more than 10,000 victims (so far). There is another figure that at the same time is encouraging; today we have 1,434 people who recovered; the highest number to date.” Conte is hoping the European Union will put together a cohesive response to the plight of countries like his, whose economy has been crippled by the coronavirus outbreak.
