Multiple states reimpose restrictions as Omicron cases surge on X-mas weekend

Amid rising cases of Omicron, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh were among several states which have imposed tougher restrictions ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations. So far, India has registered over 350 cases of the highly transmissible variant. 9 out of 10 cases of Omicron are among those fully vaccinated. The government has warned that omicron is 3x more transmissible than the Delta variant. Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat have imposed curbs on celebrations of Christmas and New Year’s Day.
