Watch: What next as Supreme Court orders Covid compensation by govt

In major relief for families of those who died due to Covid-19, the Supreme Court ordered the Union government to frame guidelines for payment of compensation. The order came on the back of two separate petitions seeking ₹4 lakh ex-gratia for families of all Covid victims, since the disease was declared a 'disaster' under Disaster Management Act, 2005. The petitioners cited Section 12(iii) of the Act, and the court said that it is mandatory for the National Disaster Management Authority to issue guidelines on ex-gratia. The NDMA will fix the amount of compensation. Watch the full video for more.
