Dhaka invitation sent: Will Narendra Modi grace Bangladesh’s new PM swearing-in after Hasina’s exit?

PM Narendra Modi has been invited to attend Bangladesh PM‑elect Tarique Rahman’s swearing‑in ceremony on Feb 17, with Dhaka also reaching out to other regional leaders, as per sources cited in Hindustan Times. Reports say Modi is unlikely to attend due to prior commitments in Mumbai on the same day, including a high‑stakes bilateral with French President Emmanuel Macron during his Feb 17–19 India visit tied to the AI Impact Summit, and India may instead send a senior representative such as the Vice‑President or External Affairs Minister. In his post‑victory remarks, Rahman called for national unity, saying Bangladesh is beginning its journey amid a fragile economy, weakened institutions and a deteriorating law‑and‑order situation.
