‘Disappointed…’: Novak Djokovic deported from Australia; Loses visa appeal
Published on Jan 16, 2022 06:34 pm IST
- Novak Djokovic, the world's number one tennis player, has left Australia after a court confirmed the government's decision to deny his visa. Days of turmoil over the country's COVID-19 entry restrictions and his unvaccinated status has culminated in the decision. The three-judge Federal Court bench's unanimous decision handed a devastating blow to Djokovic's chances of winning a record 21st Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, which begins on Monday. Only hours later, the Serbian player was at Melbourne's airport. He and his colleagues were taken by federal officers from the business lounge to the gate, where he boarded an Emirates flight to Dubai.
