Flash floods drown New York area; dozens dead as people swept away

  • Hurricane Ida pummelled through at least four states in the northeast U.S. over the past day. Ida triggered torrential rains and flash floods that swept away cars, submerged subway lines. According to reports, at least 44 people have died so far, including 13 in New York City. Large swaths of regions remain waterlogged as officials struggle to give a rundown of the situation. Hurricane Ida is said to be one of the most powerful hurricanes ever to strike the U.S. Gulf Coast. Hurricane Ida made landfall on Sunday in Louisiana, destroying entire communities.
