Reports suggest Israel conducted a covert mission in Azerbaijan during the Iran war, deploying elite troops and intelligence personnel near Iran’s northern border. According to the claims, Israeli teams were positioned less than 100 kilometres from Tabriz and were initially tasked with rescuing downed pilots if air operations over Iran went wrong. The mission reportedly expanded to include intelligence gathering and drone activities targeting Iranian military assets. One reported operation focused on IRGC commander Rahman Moghaddam.
