Updated on Mar 25, 2019 09:26 pm IST
Hours after Congress President Rahul Gandhi furnished details of the minimum income guarantee proposal which is part of the party's election manifesto, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley critiqued the idea in detail. Accusing the Congress party of cheating and fooling India's poor for decades, the Finance Minister said that the NDA government is already providing support via direct benefit transfers worth Rs 5.4 lakh crore per year to India's poor. He said that this amount was much greater than the Rs 3.6 lakh crore proposed under Congress' scheme.
