Can’t treat unequals equally: Arun Jaitley defends 10% quota for poor

Updated on Jan 08, 2019 07:30 pm IST

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who sought to address concerns raised by the Congress's first speaker on the quota bill, pulled out the Congress's manifesto for the 2014 elections to remind the opposition party that it should support the initiative whole-heartedly, not grudgingly. Reading out from the Congress's manifesto that promised quotas for economically weaker sections of the society, Arun Jaitley said manifestos of most parties promise reservation to economically weaker sections of the society, and “their commitment to their promise is put to test today”.
