The Congress party has condemned the arrests made in connection with Bhima-Koregaon violence. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said, “If a Naxalite does anything wrong then action should be taken against him. But ideas of intellectuals working for human rights should not be crushed to create fear.” Five people were arrested by the Maharashtra Police on Tuesday as part of a probe into the violence between Dalits and the upper caste Peshwas at Koregaon-Bhima village near Pune. The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered that the arrested activists be placed under house arrest instead of being jailed.
