India's External Affairs Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, is in China, just days after the Narendra Modi government decided to abrogate the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcate the state into two Union Territories. Jaishankar's visit had been scheduled before the government took the step. China had objected to the move to convert Ladakh into a UT, but India had dismissed any attempts at interference in its internal affairs. Ahead of talks with his Chinese counterpart, Jaishankar reiterated that differences between the two nations mustn't evolve into disputes.
