Union Home Minister Amit Shah, also a first time Lok Sabha member, tabled his first bill in the Lower House of Parliament. The Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2019, aimed at ensuring quota to people living near the International Border, was passed by the Lok Sabha. Shah also introduced a resolution, seeking the House's nod for extension of President's rule in Jammu and Kashmir by another six months. When Opposition MPs raised questions about pending Assembly elections in the state, the Home Minister said that the government was ready to conduct polls whenever the Election Commission decides.
