Opposition leaders submit impeachment notice against CJI

Opposition leaders from 7 parties on Friday met Vice President Venkiah Naidu to hand over the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Dipak Misra. Azad said that there were 71 signatories to the petition but 6 of them retired, leaving 64 still, which is enough to consider the motion. Kapil Sibal said that since Misra's appointment as the CJI, there have been questions raised in the manner which he dealt with certain cases. He also brought up the press conference done by the four senior most judges of the Supreme Court in January, who also believed the judiciary's independence was under threat.
