Protest against Tipu Jayanti celebrations turn violent in Karnataka

Various groups protested against Tipu Jayanti celebrations in Karnataka. Tipu Jayanti is slated to be celebrated in Karnataka amid protests. The BJP appealed to the state government to drop the celebrations. Several protestors were detained by the police. The state government deployed heavy security and imposed prohibitory orders in several districts where the celebrations were on. Security was tightened in Madikeri in the light of a shutdown called against Tipu Jayanti celebrations by various organisations, including BJP and Codava National Council. State minister DK Shivakumar of the Congress took part in celebrations at the state assembly.
