Army Chief General MM Naravane visited forward areas in Eastern Ladakh to review preparedness of the forces amid a standoff with China at the LAC. The Army said Gen Naravane visited the forward areas including Rechin La and was briefed by local commanders about the situation and the preparations of the forces. The Army Chief was also seen interacting with jawans and distributing cakes and sweets on the eve of Christmas. Nearly 50,000 troops of the Indian Army are deployed in a high state of combat readiness in various mountainous locations in eastern Ladakh in sub-zero temperatures. India and China have been engaged in a standoff at the LAC in Ladakh since May 2020. India has accused the Chinese Army of trying to alter the status-quo in the region unilaterally.
