The west coast is on alert with the Indian Meteorological Department warning that Cyclone Vayu is likely to make landfall in Gujarat on June 13. The IMD predicts that wind speeds may reach 135 km per hour on Thursday morning. Gujarat is on high alert with Chief Minister Vijay Rupani chairing a meeting on Tuesday to review preparedness for the cyclone. Advisories have been issued to fishermen to return to the mainland. Activity was also seen in states like Karnataka, with authorities placing boulders along the coast in Mangaluru. Cyclone Vayu comes a month after Cyclone Foni wreaked havoc on India's east coast, mainly Odisha, killing over 60 people.
