The Department of Telecom (DoT) tentatively estimates that the exchequer suffered a loss of over Rs 43,500 crore following the implementation of the migration policy adopted by the NDA regime in 1999. This was disclosed by JPC chairman P C Chacko after a meeting of the panel on Thursday. The Ministry of Finance, in 2006, headed by P Chidambaram also wanted the Group of Ministers to decide the Spectrum pricing but it was rejected by the then Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran.
