Shares leapt almost 17 per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex Index on Monday morning as Indian markets swelled with confidence over the Congress party-led alliance's emphatic victory in the country's parliamentary election. The Sensex, a benchmark index of 30 stocks, rocketed to 14,000 points before the market was suspended after only a minute of trading. All sectoral indices surged with banking spearheading the rally. Trading has been halted for the day.
