Delhi police stops Anna's protest in New Delhi

There were no drumbeats, no anti-corruption skits staged or team Anna at the original protest venue this time. Infact even before the dharna could start the Delhi police did everything to stop it.Instead of thousands of protestors who were supposed to have been at the venue the road to the ground was filled with police personnel and the other usual suspect at any event, the media said. Even without Anna Hazare many of his supporters decided to carry out the planned dharna at the venue.But, the Delhi police had plans of their own, including detaining anyone who cried foul. The police saw to it that all protestors who came to the venue were taken away before a large group could be formed.People were taken away in buses from the venue as soon as they started chanting pro-Anna Hazare and anti corruption slogans.Even as they were taken away people encouraged Anna to go ahead with the protest and said they would always back him up.They said that they wanted the jan lokpal bill and would not accept the government's version of the bill.People of all ages came to the venue, and many were glad to be arrested. At the original venue the police did not have much of a trouble with the protesters as most of them had been co-operative with the arrest.Meanwhile, Delhi University students gathered in huge numbers outside the Chhatrasal stadium. Around 3000 students came together and chanted anti-UPA slogans in the road leading to the stadium.The protesters said that the campaign would get stronger with the restrictions the government imposes on it and they would not rest till justice was attained.
