Loud sounds of gunfire woke up residents in the DinaNagar town of Gurdaspur on Monday morning as gunmen dressed in army uniforms reportedly hijacked a car and then fired at a bus station before entering a nearby police station near Gurdaspur, a border town in Punjab state. Punjab police's superintendent of police (detective) Baljeet Singh died in the gunbattle with the terrorists along with 5 others, IG Gaurav Yadav said. Union home minister Rajnath Singh said he had spoken to the head of the Border Security Force and "instructed him to step up the vigil on India-Pakistan border".
