Hike in yarn prices affects textile and apparel industry
Updated on Apr 26, 2010 09:13 pm IST
The textile and apparel industry in and around Coimbatore city of Tamil Nadu has been badly hit due to a 25 per cent increase in the yarn prices. Consequently, the apparel traders are apprehending less profit on account of lower exports. Exporters are now forced to shift from yarn to man made fibres as the export has not increased from the past three years. Exporters also note that that if the situation continues, the apparel orders placed by international buyers will slip out of the hands of Indian exporters and therefore the government must reduce the yarn prices.
