India hopes for improved bilateral ties with US as Obama wins

As Republican candidate for the US Presidency, Mitt Romney, conceded defeat to his rival, incumbent Democrat Barack Obama today, hopes for improved Indo-US ties became more persistent. Counsellor for Public Affairs at the US Embassy in New Delhi, Walter T Douglas, said that since India was not a partisan issue in the election, there would be no alteration in relations. At the US Consulate in Mumbai, Indians watching live television projections were upbeat about the results, hoping that another four years in the president's office would see Obama strengthening bilateral ties.
