India, Sri Lanka sign seven pacts to boost cooperation

India inked seven MoU's (Memoranda of Understanding) with Sri Lanka on a spectrum of bilateral issues in New Delhi on Wednesday. The two sides signed the pacts in the presence of the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh and the Sri Lankan president, Mahinda Rajapaksa. Prior to signing the MoU's, Singh held intense delegation level talks with Rajapaksa in which several common concerns were discussed. Some of the key issues that were raised in the meeting pertained to security, terrorism, development, economic cooperation, culture, and energy resources. The plight of Sri Lankan Tamils was also discussed.
