Coal ministry has rubbished the allegations levelled by the BJP that it had unduly allotted 17 coal blocks to 36 companies after Sriprakash Jaiswal had assumed charge of the ministry in 2009. BJP spokesperson, Ravi Shankar Prasad had alleged that 17 coal blocks were allotted in 2009, 2010 and 2011, contrary to Jaiswal's admission in the Parliament that the last meeting of Screening Committee took place in 2008. The BJP also drew a link between Manoj Jaiswal, who got five coalfields and Rs 22,000 crore loan, and coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal as well as Congress party lawmaker Vijay Darda.
