Islamic scholars in Kashmir are trying to revive Arabic calligraphy, which was in vogue in the state to script religious texts. Calligraphy or Khat-e-kufi had evolved alongside Islam and Arabic language. Many ancient texts of Islam like the Quran had been written in this form. It is almost extinct now. Recently an exhibition of rare and ancient Islamic calligraphic texts was held in Srinagar to revive the interest of people.
