Congress has strongly asserted that there is no competition between congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Congress Spokesperson Rashid Alvi said that Rahul was only reacting to the delegation of village headmen from Kashmir who had called him with an appeal to ensure their safety and security. Alvi further said that it is hoped that the government of Jammu and Kashmir would enact a stringent law to protect the state's village council heads from militants.
