Donald Trump’s much-hyped Nobel Peace Prize hopes have crashed. Despite brokering the Gaza ceasefire, the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize went to Venezuela’s opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, a woman hailed for “keeping the flame of democracy alive in darkness.” The 58-year-old, now in hiding, was honored for her fearless fight against Nicolas Maduro’s dictatorship. As Oslo crowned Venezuela’s “Iron Lady,” Trump was left empty-handed, just hours after touting his peace deal as Nobel-worthy. But even Machado once praised Trump’s support for Venezuela’s freedom struggle.
