A major controversy has erupted over a gender-neutral oath in Kerala prepared by Kudumbasree Mission. Part of the pledge stating that women in the family should have equal property rights over her father’s property has not gone down well with a group of Muslim clerics. The Kerala government urged the self-help group to not administer the gender-neutral oath to its volunteers after a Muslim group claimed that it was against the Sharia law.
