Indian Embassy in Kabul to reopen? Govt's decision soon after meet with Taliban

• In a major move, India is exploring options to reopen its embassy in Taliban-held Afghanistan. Hindustan Times has learned that the Modi govt is close to a decision on reopening the Indian embassy in Kabul. For now, govt is mulling the possibility of posting a very limited number of junior officials. The limited staff will oversee consular matters and humanitarian aid distribution. The issue of India again having a diplomatic presence in Kabul had figured at a meeting on June 2 between joint secretary JP Singh, the external affairs ministry’s point person on Afghanistan, and the Taliban’s acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.
